Business Correspondent Model-Scope & Opportunity In Odisha 3 January 2021

Business Correspondent Model-Scope & Opportunity In Odisha 3 January 2021

In collaboration with Odisha Corporate  Foundation, Bhubaneswar, a webinar was organized on" Business Correspondents model-scope and potential in Odisha. From the panel discussion, it was observed that there is still huge scope to open banking points in rural, hilly and undeveloped districts of Odisha and drive various banking and social security schemes. Some of the youth will get engaged in setting up CSPs under BCs

Govt should come out to support the BCs/ CSPs or Bank Mitras to bear their initial expenses to set up the points as there is viability and sustainability issues for the BCs/ CSPs in the difficult Centres. As Banks engage the BCs as their service providers/agents, they are not willing to support the BCs in their initial expenses in selection, handholding, providing technical support, training etc. Since they suffered losses due to connectivity issue, long gestation period, low level of business, the unprivileged and poor people are deprived of required banking facilities and not covered under social security schemes. There is an urgent need, for the Govt to revisit the issues and help the BCs to tide over the difficulties.
